The LGA Board has taken the difficult but necessary decision to not proceed with the LGA Annual Conference and Exhibition due to take place in Harrogate from 2-4 July 2024.

Sara Jenner-Akehurst from Cambridgeshire County Council has been named as the 2024 Local Government Apprentice of the Year.

A new improvement and assurance framework for local government is due to be reviewed by LGA members ahead of publication as a new resource for the sector.

Councils are doing all they can to ensure they meet their duties under the Care Act - including cutting spending on other neighbourhood services - but many still fear they will not be able to over the coming years.

Following the local elections held on Thursday 2 May 2024, the LGA’s political proportionality has now been calculated and independently verified. The results are as follows:Labour - 38.8% Conservative - 31.4% Liberal Democrat - 15.5% Independent/Green Party/Other - 14.3% Total - 100% Labour remains the largest group at the LGA. This means that Labour will retain the chair of the LGA and will be nominating Cllr Shaun Davies to remain as LGA Chair.  ENDS
