At the end of 2020, Star Academies undertook pilots of daily COVID-19 testing in three of their schools (in Lancashire, Manchester and Birmingham).

Launched in December 2020 and funded by Power to Change and the Lottery Fund, the COVID Lead Leadership Programme was established to help challenge the misconceptions and myths of COVID-19 and the vaccine within Black and minority ethnic (BAME) communities.  

Inequity, the systematic difference in health outcomes of populations due to avoidable antecedent factors [1], can be reduced by redistributing public resources.

A group of county councillors have become Autism Champions in order to raise awareness of autism in their local area and champion the needs of autistic adults, children, young people, and their families.

The pandemic brought an urgent need to provide support and assistance to families and individuals struggling with a wide range of issues across Cumbria County Council’s 2,613 square miles. To date, more than 27,000 residents have been supported by the council’s COVID-19 emergency helpline.

Cumbria organised the flu and COVID-19 jabs as two separate schemes resulting in nurses on the school immunisation service focussing on the nasal flu delivery, while the clinical leads working to deliver the COVID-19 vaccination campaign. 

In Cumbria, integrated care consortia have had “hard” budgets distributed to six localities since April. There are six GP consortia or localities, each covering roughly 100,000 residents, aligned with District Council boundaries.

Summary Planners at Darlington Borough Council have produced an Open Spaces strategy. It prioritises improving the quality of open spaces close to areas of multiple deprivation to help reduce health inequalities.

Darlington is an example of a council that demonstrates good practice across all six domains of this outcomes and improvement framework and achieves excellent outcomes for people with a learning disability. It has also consistently realised significant efficiency savings.

Over the summer of 2021, Darlington Borough Council’s very own vaccine bus hit the roads across Darlington to encourage more people to get their COVID-19 vaccines.
