Case studies

The North Yorkshire authorities have submitted a live case study, capturing their work so far to bring together the culture, leisure and sport provisions and strategies of their eight authorities as part of local government reorganisation.

A young parenting programme has been set up in North Yorkshire, led by specialist health visitors. It helps provide comprehensive one-to-one support for young parents and is filling an important gap following the decommissioning of the Family Nurse Partnership service. This case study is an example of the work that councils are doing to support young parents.

‘Transforming our Communities’ was a consultation undertaken by Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby, and helped to provide a mandate for the local system to develop new models of care closer to home. This example of a local initiative forms part of our managing transfers of care resource.

The initiative has paved the way for a new project which will see youth clubs created to target at youngsters most at risk of finding themselves caught up in organised and violent crime. Northamptonshire’s countywide school nursing service has set up a dedicated pathway to ensure home educated children do not fall through the gaps. All electively home educated pupils are contacted by the service – with those identified as most in needed offered appointments. This case study showcases the important role of school nurses in the education system.

A dedicated school nursing service has been set up in Northumberland and North Tyneside to support SEND schools. The team provides on-site nursing provision to seven schools across the area to pupils with specialist health needs. This case study showcases the important role of school nurses in the education system.
