In a joint letter to 'The Times' about social care cuts, LGA Chairman Sir Merrick Cockell, along with the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services and Hawkes Care and Support Alliance, call on the Chancellor to use the Autumn Statement to "prevent the cracks already evident in our parched adult social care system from becoming wider".
The June 2013 Spending Round was extremely challenging for local government, handing councils reduced budgets at a time of significant demand pressures on services. In this context the announcement of £3.8 billion worth of funding to ensure closer integration between health and social care was a real positive. The money is an opportunity to improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
The LGA, with support from national partners (NHS England, ASASS, Public Health England, ADCS, Monitor, Department of Health), have appointed Integrating Care to lead on the development of a series of value cases and a toolkit to help local areas, through Health and Wellbeing Boards. understand the impact of different models of integrated care on service users and cost across the health and care system.

The LGA and NHS England have today (9 August) published their planning ‘vision' for how the pooling of £3.8 billion of funding, announced by the Government in the June Spending Round, will ensure a transformation in integrated health and social care.
The LGA, Department of Health, Royal College for Paediatrics and Child Health and the Children and Young People Health Outcome Forum have jointly written to lead members for children's services and chairs of health and wellbeing boards to share resources to support local area transformation.
