Officer development – 2022/23 highlights

In 2022/23, we sponsored a range of officer development programmes, designed and delivered by Solace, for the sector’s rising stars, executive leaders and chief executives.


Overview

Our 2022/23 officer development programmes included:

  • our Springboard programme, designed for future leaders who have been recognised as rising stars of local government – Springboard reached 40 talented managers and covered topics such as systems leadership, place-shaping, local government finance, innovation and the role of democratic accountability
  • Total Leadership, our programme for senior level officers who are on the cusp of becoming local government chief executives – Total Leadership engaged 27 participants and covered topics such as personal leadership, place and systems leadership, innovation, adaptive and agile approaches, inclusivity and complexity and personal resilience – the programme hones already successful senior managers skills so that they can determine if they are ready to take the next step, to be chief executive
  • our Ignite programme, which engaged 12 experienced chief executives in 2022/23 – the programme offers a shared, safe space for chief executives to explore their role, work through systems leadership challenges together and build stronger relationships with peers that can support deeper collaboration across local government.

Highlights

During 2022/23, programme highlights and achievements included:

  • 93 per cent of respondents would be likely to recommend the Springboard programme to a colleague
  • 100 per cent of respondents said the Total Leadership programme had a positive impact on their development
  • 100 per cent of respondents would consider recommending the Ignite programme to others.

Delegate feedback

I would absolutely recommend the Springboard programme as an opportunity for anyone working at a senior level in local authorities wanting to focus on their continued professional development. I found it an inspiring journey. From having the opportunity to meet and network with fellow Springboarders, to having access to a chief executive mentor and being able to take time out to engage in a series of uplifting workshops. I've made some great connections along the way, and it’s given me deeper insight and clarity in terms of the goals I want to achieve in my career.
