Birmingham City Council has invested in developing good relationships with supported housing providers which have resulted in progressive conversations about meeting needs differently. This forms part of our adult social care markets and commissioning resource.

The 10th anniversary of the ban is a time to look back at what has been achieved. While it took a long time to get the legislation introduced – cinemas first started restricting smoking in the 1970s – when it did happen it was pretty seamless.

This resource has been developed for local authorities, local Defence Medical Services and those supporting the health needs of the armed forces community in England.

Public health made the formal transfer to local government in April 2013 and has made great strides in the last four years to tackle the wider social and economic determinants of poor health by moving into a phase of transformational change.

This report explores how councils influence the mental wellbeing of our communities and how council services, from social care to parks to open spaces to education to housing, help to make up the fabric of mental health support for the people in our communities.

Our survey results strongly support the messages we have been hearing for months – STPs are largely excluding councillors from the STP planning process.

Building on positive feedback from the sector, the LGA commissioned a refresh of the risk awareness self-assessment tool in 2016; and is now offering councils (and system partners) the option of an external, independently facilitated workshop to undertake the self-assessment along with local senior system leaders.

We have worked with the Chartered Institute for Public Finance Accountants and other key partners to develop a tool to support health and care systems with understanding and progressing their financial arrangements for integrated health and social care services.
