The LGA has produced the document with Police and Crime Panel members in mind as its primary audience, but we hope it will also be of use to others who have an interest in developing their knowledge of how this essential public service is structured and governed.

The Domestic Abuse Act was first introduced in the House of Commons in the 2017-19 parliamentary session. Following the 2019 General Election, the Government re-introduced the Bill on 3rd March 2020, it completed its parliamentary stages on 27 April 2021 and received Royal Assent, becoming law, on 29 April 2021.

This revised modern slavery guidance provides an overview of modern slavery and the UK framework for tackling it, and provides targeted sections for officers working in different council services to help them understand their specific responsibilities.

The survey was conducted by the LGA's Research and Information team in October-November 2016 in order to gather information about how community safety partnerships (CSP)/county strategy groups (CSG) and councils' community safety services currently operate.
