What first inspired you to apply to NGDP?

I wanted to contribute to something worthwhile in society, and felt that working with the wide-ranging fields that Local Government dwells in would help broaden my perspectives.

The opportunity to network alongside fellow graduates all over the country, as well as leaders, really motivated me to apply as well.

How much did you know about the NGDP before you applied?

I attended a careers fair focused on working on the public sector and was fortunate enough to hear from someone who was on the NGDP, which resonated with me even three years later, when I applied!

What was the recruitment process like?

The recruitment process was the most supportive I ever encountered during my years of applying to graduate schemes. I had applied to over a dozen graduate schemes in the space of a couple of years, and attended half a dozen assessment centres. What was distinct about the NGDP was that these initial stages were concise and not daunting whatsoever. There was a lot of support, and I felt it got the best out of me.

What would be your advice to people thinking about applying to NGDP?

If you are already thinking about the NGDP, then you clearly already have an interest in working in the public sector, which is amazing! Please do you research around Councils, as they are incredible entities, which can be quite complex at times. Really think about your motivations. Practice the online tests. Be brave and believe in the change you want to bring, as well as believing in yourself!
