Responding to the State of Fire and Rescue Report from His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Fire & Rescue Services, an annual assessment of England’s fire and rescue services, Cllr Nick Chard, Chair of the National Employers said:

“The National Employers remain proud of their work in avoiding industrial action last year and we’re already tackling many of the issues identified in the report for example pay and reward for on call firefighters, exploring skills and knowledge development through pay reform, and working via the Inclusive Fire Service Group to improve culture and behaviours across the sector.

“We’ve established a self-led review of the NJC, ensuring we are working as efficiently and transparently as possible while maintaining the flexibility to reach agreements with our union colleagues.

“Our ambition for reforming and professionalising the sector could be so much greater given proper investment into the workforce and we will continue to make that case.”
