Section 102 of the Environment Act 2021 strengthens the duty first set out in the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act ("the NERC Act"). We held some workshops to go through draft versions of guidance and a template for reporting.
These workshops were held in November 2022 and we discussed draft versions of the guidance and templates for reporting action on biodiversity.
We expect them to be of little interest ultimately (because final versions of the guidance will be published early in 2023) but they give some ideas of how things might work. The timetable on slide 10 shows the proposed timetable for reporting.
We took the opportunity to canvas the views of the practitioners in the room. We wanted to know how much effort would go into this type of reporting and whether these duties would have much of an impact. Those survey results are towards the end of the presentation.
