LGA Labour Group officers

Group officers are elected annually by Labour Groups in England and Wales. They form the core of the Executive Team and are responsible for decisions over Labour appointments to LGA member structures.


LGA Labour Group Elections 2020 – nominations now closed

Nominations have now closed for LGA Labour Group officer and Regional Representative positions. The following positions were elected unopposed:

  • Leader – Cllr Nick Forbes (Newcastle)
  • Deputy Leader – Cllr Michael Payne (Gedling, Nottinghamshire)
  • Deputy Leader – Cllr Anntoinette Bramble (Hackney)
  • Chair – Cllr Simon Henig (Durham)
  • Vice-Chair – Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe (Bradford)
  • Chief Whip – Cllr Oliver Ryan (Tameside)
  • Deputy Whip – Cllr Alice Perry (Islington)
  • Eight of the ten Regional Representative positions received only one nomination, and the following candidates are therefore elected unopposed:
  • Eastern – Cllr Richard Henry (Stevenage)
  • East Midlands – Cllr Tom Beattie (Corby)
  • London – Cllr Nesil Caliskan (Enfield)
  • North East – Cllr Iain Malcolm (South Tyneside)
  • South East – Cllr Naushabah Khan (Medway)
  • South West – Cllr Kate Haigh (Gloucester/Gloucestershire)
  • West Midlands – Cllr Paulette Hamilton (Birmingham)
  • Yorkshire and Humber – Cllr Tim Swift (Calderdale)
  • In North West region and Wales more than one valid nomination was received, and therefore will move to an election. The candidates are:
    • North West – Cllr Samantha Dixon (Cheshire West and Chester); Cllr Andrew Western (Trafford)
    • Wales – Cllr Joshua Beynon (Pembrokeshire); Cllr Dhanisha Patel (Bridgend)

Election is by vote of Labour Groups. Ballots will be issued to the leaders of Labour Groups on Monday 1 June, and must be returned by email by 12pm on Wednesday 24 June 2020.
