The LGA provides a range of tools and support to help councils and councillors further strengthen local accountability and improve their performance. Member peers are at the heart of these. They are accredited to support councils and their councillors with their improvement and learning using a peer practitioner and critical friend approach.
The LGA Labour Group has five lead member peers, who lead support directly to councils and coordinate support from a wide pool of Labour member peers with expertise in different areas. The Labour Group lead member peers work closely with the Labour Group leadership and office to ensure that support is provided when needed within available resources.
Labour lead member peers:
Cllr Sir Steve Houghton – National lead peer (Barnsley)
Cllr Clyde Loakes (Waltham Forest)
Cllr Bryony Rudkin (Ipswich/Suffolk)
Cllr Helen Holland (Bristol)
Cllr Graham Chapman (Nottingham)
