Our events bring people together to allow them the time and space to think through new problems. We run our events both online and in-person, and make use of tools such as MS Teams and Slido to ensure the best experience. We try to keep things interactive whether they are online or in person sessions so bring your questions and your creativity!
Residential Councillor Training for Local Plan Leads and Planning Committee Chairs: Oct 2026 & Jan 2027
PAS deliver two LGA Leadership Essentials courses for Councillors engaged in Planning:
- Planning Committee Chairs: session to help members understand the key characteristics of a good planning committee, the recent reforms around the national scheme of delegation and the skills as a planning committee chair
- Leading the Local Plan: for leaders and portfolio holders whose authority is preparing a local plan
These 2 two-day events are held at Warwick Conferences, Coventry, CV4 7SH.
Leadership Essentials: Planning Committee Chairs
These sessions will help councillors who are chairs/vice chairs of planning committee understand the key characteristics of a good committee and develop their skills as a chair. The programme will also look at the current challenges and agendas in the planning process such as new performance regimes and the latest government proposals for reform of planning committees.
The sessions will be useful to both new and experienced planning committee chairs and vice chairs. The two-day residential course will be delivered in person, and we'll be holding an online warm-up for those who are attending.
- Programme 7: Saturday, 10th October – Sunday, 11th October 2026
- Programme 8: Tuesday, 19th January – Wednesday, 20th January 2027
Planning Leadership Essentials: Leading New System Local Plans
We will be running 2 two-day event for Council Leaders, Portfolio Holders and Local Plan Leads will focus on producing local plans under the new local plan system that is replace the current system.
We will be covering the new Style Local Plans; learning the new 30-month plan-making system and your role, being a champion of placemaking and leading the local plan, the steps and actions to ensure local plan success and what does this practically mean for your council's plan-making and decision-making.

- Programme 8: Tuesday, 19th January – Wednesday, 20th January 2027

Booking tickets via Eventbrite
A few people are getting frustrated when booking tickets for events very late (sometimes even after they have started). This means that shortly before the event a human from the PAS team will send you your link. This will be coming from an @local.gov.uk email address.
Shortly before the event starts our team will usually will be mucking in with the event and will not see any late orders. So - please book tickets at least two days in advance if you want to be sure of a place.
