As the role of councils is rapidly changing, so to is that of our officers, managers and chief executives. To support the leadership capacity of these professionals now and in the future our offer focuses particularly on ensuring:

- those leading our local authorities are offered superb class, joint political and managerial development opportunities; stretching their knowledge and capability to effectively lead across place, together.
The LGA's Leading Edge area of work focuses on the critical interface between elected leaders and senior officers and challenges them, together, to consider the key issues facing councils, communities and the wider public sector.
This is a development programme for high-calibre graduates with the potential to become senior managerial leaders in local government within the next 10 years.
The LG Challenge is a competition for local government's aspiring future top executives. Ten contestants undertake five tough real-life challenges hosted by councils around the country. The winner receives the £10,000 Bruce-Lockhart scholarship.
Changing governmental and community priorities have made the middle managerʼs job increasingly complicated. New approaches to the role are essential and our resources aims to help middle managers step into their leadership roles and be a force for innovation, change and transformation.
