In 2023, waiting time targets have been missed every month for the 31 day and 62 day standard across Gloucestershire.

Our NHS staff are stretched, often pushed to the limit and do an amazing job, but with three out of four of them considering quitting according to surveys (2023/24 Monthly Commissioner Cancer Waiting Times Statistics). This is a result of the long term underfunding of our NHS, and mismanagement by the Conservative Government.

Council therefore resolves to:

  • Have a full briefing to Council on this key issue from the Health Overview Scrutiny Committee after that committee has conducted a review of cancer waiting times in Gloucestershire (to be brought back to Council within six months of this motion being proposed).
  • Ask the Council Leader to write to the Secretary of State for Health, highlighting the Council’s concerns over cancer waiting times in both Gloucestershire and across England and asking them to take action to address this.
