We hope that our membership pack demonstrates the value of councils working together through the LGA as your national voice.
Local government continues to face significant challenges and change. Against a backdrop of rising demand, financial pressures and major reform across the sector, councils continue to show resilience and leadership in delivering for their communities.
The Local Government Association (LGA), as a responsible member-led body, has reviewed its purpose and vision through extensive engagement with members, workforce and service-users, resulting in a strategic framework that includes a refreshed purpose and vision and an ambitious set of goals.
To translate these into action, the LGA are continuing work to strengthen and embed a modern organisation that delivers greater value and impact for the sector. Our focus is on building a more resilient, flexible and forward-looking organisation – one that can quickly respond to members’ needs.
Local government is key to solving some of our biggest national challenges. Our voice is strongest when we work as a collective, speaking across party affiliations, for every region and tier of the sector. We continue to work closely with Government – through our networks in Westminster, Whitehall and across the media – to help create the conditions for councils to thrive.
Our members are central to our success, allowing us to focus on the key issues affecting local places and residents. Our priorities include long-term and sustainable funding; adult social care; children’s services and SEND; housing and planning; devolution and local government reorganisation; workforce; and digital transformation.
We have leveraged our legal, analytical, policy and lobbying expertise to coordinate efforts on behalf of our members. This has included helping to secure important wins for the sector, including the first multi-year settlement in a decade, additional funding for vital local services, protecting councillor safety and privacy, and continued influence on legislation and national policy. Our events, training, guidance and support help equip council leaders and officers with the knowledge and tools to navigate a wide range of issues, from cyber security to recruitment and retention.
Thank you to our members for tirelessly representing residents and what they need, and for being a bastion of local leadership. We will continue to work on your behalf, listening and engaging to evolve our membership offer to meet your needs.
This year, we produced individually tailored membership packs for councils, showing specific wins and benefits. These packs were sent to all our Members in March 2026.
