Responding to the Chancellor’s announcement that the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust will receive £10 million to support veterans with their mental health, Cllr Ian Hudspeth, Chairman of the Local Government Association’s Community Wellbeing Board, said:

“Additional funding for mental health support for veterans is good news for our armed forces community and will help ensure that they have access to timely mental health support.

“There are two million veterans across the country and councils provide a range of services that help them and their families, including housing, money advice, employment support and health and wellbeing services.

“The scale of the funding challenge facing local government means it is becoming increasingly challenging to maintain the current level of support for the armed forces community, and we want to work with the Government to ensure that our veterans receive the support they need.

“Councils need adequate funding so they can support veterans through homelessness prevention, housing, mental health and other services.”
