LGA responds to Sport England's expansion of Place Partnerships work

The LGA responds to the announcement by Sport England of further investment into Place Partnerships work

Responding to an announcement by Sport England of £250 million to expand Place Partnerships work, Cllr Liz Green, Chair of the Local Government Association's Culture, Tourism and Sport board, said:

"This announcement from Sport England is great. Councils as leaders of place have a huge role to play in delivering place-based solutions that reflects the unique needs of their communities and geographies. For this investment to be fully realised it needs the full backing of departments across government to ensure this programme is successful and helps to reduce NHS waiting lists and cost pressures. The LGA will work with government to achieve this."

"However, councils are still under significant pressures due to a funding gap of £4 billion over the next two years, which is being exacerbated by inflation. We hope that this fund will go some way in assisting council delivery of leisure services and facilities."
