The purpose of the project is to develop and promote walking opportunities across Glasgow, targeting groups least likely to regularly exercise, to increase physical activity levels and improve the health and wellbeing of city residents. The project consists of open walking groups which meet on a weekly basis, and closed walking groups which meet at frequent intervals. Walks are targeted at particular client groups, such as hospital inpatients, people with learning disabilities, members of ethnic minorities and individuals referred by medical practitioners.

The benefits are increased fitness levels, more social contact, the chance to meet people and make new friends, and participate in new experiences - contributing to an increase in confidence and a reduction in isolation. It was found that every £1 invested would generate around £8 of benefits.
