LGA submission to the Carer's Strategy

The Department of Health made a call for evidence to help them develop a new strategy for carers. The strategy is looking to reflect carers lives now, the health and financial concerns they have, and how to give them the support they need to live well whilst caring for a family member or friend.

The LGA has submitted evidence to the consultation and will be working with the Department of Health on the development of the strategy. This submission provides a summary of the value that local government places on unpaid carers, and an acknowledgement of the challenges many face in balancing their needs with those receiving care.

Local government has a strong stake in this agenda – we are leaders of community and place, from leaders of busy metropolitan councils down to the ward Councillor. We look forward to working closely with the Department of Health and other partners in the development of a Carers Strategy that seeks to find tangible and realistic solutions to enable the public sector, the private sector, and our communities to better support carers, both in their role as a carer, but also as people with other assets, issues and opportunities.
