Lana Fisher from Leeds City Council is the 2013 Local Government Challenge winner.

Challenge 1: Bournemouth Borough Council
How can Bournemouth BC manage change effectively to ensure the delivery of high quality services to residents, visitors and local businesses during a period of significant uncertainty?
Challenge 2: Rushcliffe Borough Council
The council is recognised by their customers as the number one authority in the country for street cleanliness. The challenge was to come up with a sound business and action plan that convinced members to empower the workforce to work towards an income generating social franchise model for their Streetwise services.
Challenge 3: Breckland Council
This challenge was a simulation exercise, in which the cohort played the part of a joint management team across two district councils. Teams were given the responsibility for the whole strategic management of councils. The object was to manage the affairs of these councils as effectively and successfully as they can.
Challenge 4: London Fire Brigade
This challenge directly related to one of London Fire Brigade’s (LFB’s) core functions; reducing accidental fires in the home. Figures for the London Boroughs of Southwark and Lambeth, both inner London boroughs with similar issues, each showed a high number of accidental fires in the home. This challenge sought to explore ways of working between LFB and local authorities that can impact on this, with a particular focus on the safety of vulnerable adults.
Challenge 5: Northampton Borough Council
Northampton Borough Council was committed to a series of ambitious regeneration projects not least the Northampton Waterside Enterprise Zone. One of the major projects involved relocating the University of Northampton to the town centre and another was to develop a vibrant Cultural Quarter. The challenge for the contestants was to develop Northampton as a student town with the Cultural Quarter at its heart.
