The Department of Health has issued two key documents on the appointment of Directors of Public Health and their future roles. The LGA has been consulted on the drafting of these documents.
Document 1 – roles responsibilities and context
This is statutory guidance under the Health and Social Care Act and will be reissued next year to give it statutory force.
Document 2 – guidance on appointments
This is non-statutory but does for example explain the formal role that the Secretary of State will have in appointments through Public Health England.
