Provisional scopes for LGA policy committees for 2025/26

Committee Scope
Children, Young People & Families Policy Committee  The Children, Young People and Families Policy Committee has responsibility for LGA activity on the wellbeing of children and young people to support and promote the council role in achieving better outcomes for children 0 to 19, including education, children’s social care, public health services, and early years.
Health and Wellbeing Policy Committee  The Health and Wellbeing Policy Committee works to support local government in delivery of its public health, health protection and mental health responsibilities, as well as issues relating to an ageing society, the reform and funding of adult social care and matters relating to welfare reform.
Neighbourhoods Policy Committee  The Neighbourhoods Policy Committee has responsibility for LGA activity on street scene, licensing, waste, green spaces, biodiversity and net zero.
Inclusive Growth Policy Committee  The Inclusive Growth Policy Committee provides strategic oversight of the LGA's policy, regulatory and improvement activity in relation to housing, homelessness, planning, infrastructure, transport, business support, employment and skills.
Local Government Resources Policy Committee Local Government Resources Policy Committee shapes and develops the LGA’s policies and programmes in line with LGA priorities relating to local government finance, workforce and pensions.
Public Service Reform and Innovation Policy Committee Public Service Reform and Innovation Policy Committee will provide strategic oversight of all the LGA’s policy and improvement activity in relation to devolution, digital and the future of local government.
Safer and Stronger Communities Policy Committee The Safer and Stronger Communities Policy Committee has responsibility for LGA activity in the promotion of the health and safety of local communities. This includes issues of crime and anti-social behaviour, police governance and accountability, community safety, public protection; the fire service and emergency planning, licensing and other regulatory activities, and matters relating to democracy.
Fire Services Policy Committee The role of the Fire Services Policy Committee is to represent as an LGA body the views and concerns of the fire community ensuring that local circumstances have a voice in the national context. The Committee will take the lead on behalf of the LGA: on the future direction of the fire and rescue service; improvement within the sector; and on all other day-to-day issues (e.g. technical or operational matters) affecting fire authorities. 
Culture Tourism and Sport Policy Committee The Culture Tourism and Sport Policy Committee will provide strategic oversight of all the LGA’s policy and improvement activity in relation to libraries, the visitor economy, sport and physical activity, the arts, museums, public parks, heritage, and international policy. 
Improvement Committee  The Improvement Committee is responsible for LGA activity in relation to ensuring councils have the help they need to innovate and improve their performance by working in partnership with sector bodies and other national level improvement organisations. This includes oversight of delivering an effective programme of sector-led support, including peer challenges, productivity, leadership development programmes, tools to share comparative performance data, sharing good and innovative practice, in line with the Grant Determination Letter with the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG).
