Responsibility for comissioning sexual health services is split between local government, clinical commissioning groups and NHS England. These arrangements have been in place since 2013 when responsibility for public health was transferred to local government as part of the wider reorganisation of the NHS.

Six years on from getting responsibility for some sexual health services, councils are well on the way to shaping a modern, responsive and proactive service to meet the needs of all. This report features are examples of councils that have led the way in this area through the creation of strong commissioning networks and expert groups.
