Call for evidence: Institutional investment into affordable housing

This call for evidence supports work looking into how the current level of institutional investment in affordable housing might be expanded to increase the supply of new affordable housing.

The LGA is committed to supporting the supply of more homes across all tenures. This call for evidence supports work looking into how the current level of institutional investment in affordable housing might be expanded to increase the supply of new affordable housing. The LGA is partnering with the British Property Federation on this call for evidence.

This call for evidence closes on Friday 13th September.

Affordable housing, from shared ownership schemes to affordable housing at 80 per cent of market rents to social housing at under 50 per cent of market rents, provides a vital form of housing tenure at a time when cost of living and inflationary pressures have made market housing become increasingly unaffordable for some people even in full time work.

Institutional investors already play an important role in funding new affordable housing, working with developers, registered providers and councils to deliver these vital homes. We want to hear from all stakeholders across the sector – institutional investors, registered providers, councils, charities – about how the current system works for their ambitions to deliver on their fiduciary duties and any wider social goals through affordable housing.
