This case study explains how Rochdale Borough Council is working to develop an organisational culture that maximises the benefits of data and performance management.

Liverpool City Council has worked with the local NHS to set up a network of women’s health hubs in GP surgeries. The hubs offer both NHS and council-commissioned services from cervical screening to long-acting reversible contraception (LARC).

In many areas school-based immunisation programmes are run separately from 5-19 Healthy Child Programme services, but that is not the case in Stockport where the HPV, the teenage three-in-one booster and MenACWY vaccines programmes are delivered by the service. The approach has helped ensure high uptake of immunisations and meant the service was well placed to respond to the demands placed on it by the pandemic. This case study showcases the important role of school nurses in the education system.

Bradford Council commissioned a piece of research on entrepreneurial support for young people in Bradford district, with the aim of understanding what appetite there is amongst them to start their own business or to become self-employed and how support might be best delivered to ensure there is an inclusive, accessible offer for them.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council are undertaking the development of a learning and skills strategy for 14-25 year olds in the city. With support from a consultant as part of the LGA’s Economic Growth Advisers programme, the council is undertaking a review to map the economic and employer skill needs in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire and provide more opportunities for young people to study and work in the area.

Using engineering and designing infrastructure as way to prevent suicide. This case study was done jointly with the National Suicide Prevention Alliance and forms part of our suicide prevention resource.

The behavioural intervention increased the use of BFF by 3 percentage points, and increased breastfeeding rates at the new birth visit by 4 percentage points, at the  six to eight week visit by 6 percentage points and by 3 percentage points at the  three to four month visit. However, these differences were not statistically significant.   

In January 2021 the Apricot Centre carried out a study that highlighted a huge skills deficit in Regenerative Systems, holding back farmers, growers, and food systems workers from transitioning to regenerative farming methods. Devon County Council supported the Apricot Centre to deliver a pilot training programme, helping local businesses to develop the required skills and to create new jobs in the sector.

Verity Close is Kensington and Chelsea’s first low-energy retrofit council property. This project is the basis on which they intend to make the wider Lancaster West Estate carbon neutral by 2030.

Youth Voice is a project taking place in East Suffolk, in the East of England. The initiative forms part of East Suffolk Council’s enabling communities strategy, and is run by the Communities Team.
