Recognising that there is a relationship with the wider determinants, and that the council has control or a strong influence over these and related service areas, the City Council sought to apply a Health in All Policies (HiAP) approach to a new cross-council Tobacco, Alcohol and Drugs strategy, to optimise efficiency, effectiveness and outcomes.

The Isle of Wight is a county of two halves. In the summer the island is very busy with a large influx of tourists. In the winter it is very quiet. For people working in social care on the island it can be quite hard to not bump into people you are supporting in a range of non-support environments.
Run by and for Disabled staff, SHINE was set up as a disability staff network creating a safe space for Disabled staff and those with long-term health conditions, all driven by personal experiences. Advocating for the Social Model of Disability, SHINE has been able to create meaningful change across Cumbria County Council, now split into Westmorland and Furness, and Cumberland Council.
During 2023 to 2024, self-access technology was installed across Sutton’s libraries, extending opening hours by 63 per cent and enabling the council to keep all its eight libraries open. Self-access is popular with customers.
