#CouncilsCan Day: how to get involved

For maximum impact, we want as many people as possible to use the hashtag around the same time.

To help us achieve this, simply schedule a #CouncilsCan message for 7.45am Tuesday 10 November on Twitter, Facebook and any other social network you are on.

Any additional messages you send out during the day would be much appreciated. Suggestions for additional content is available further below.

Below are two suggested messages (optimised for Twitter), which you are of course free to tweak to suit your audience and other platforms. The important thing is to include #CouncilsCan.

In these tough times we have continued to be there to provide vital services and support for you.

Today we are thanking our staff and councillors for their dedication to keeping our communities running under challenging circumstances.

2.

Now is not the time for local services to face uncertainty.

Today we're joining @LGAcomms & other councils to highlight the critical work of #LocalGov during the pandemic, and call on Govt to give councils what they need to keep going next year.

To accompany the messages we have created a suite of different #CouncilsCan images available for download in our Dropbox.

There are also .png versions of the logo that can be added to any local images or branding if you prefer using that, and some branded social media headers.

• Find and prepare content based on stories from your own area that you can share across social networks on the day – such as:
  • Practical examples of how your council has worked to keep your communities safe and running during the pandemic and the difference it has made
  • Profile a staff member or councillor who has made a difference locally (perhaps someone who has retrained due to the pandemic?)
  • A video message from your council leader or chief executive on the importance of council services
• Send an internal email, Intranet or Yammer message to all staff and members letting them know about the campaign, encouraging them to take part.
• Brief local media using our press release template (coming soon)

• Send a reminder internal email, Intranet or Yammer message to all staff and members encouraging to tweet/post using the hashtag #CouncilsCan.
• Change your council’s Twitter/Facebook header images to the #CouncilsCan graphic
• Send out your prepared content – any additional messages are appreciated!
• Keep an eye on #CouncilsCan and LGA’s accounts across platforms. RT/share anything you think your audience would be interested in.
