LGBTQ+ councillors – weekender events

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer plus (LGBTQ+) councillors are invited to join us at our annual two-day, cross-party weekender event on Saturday 3 to Sunday 4 February 2024 – an excellent opportunity to network and share experiences.

Attendees will have opportunities to:

  • explore the challenges of being a LGBTQ+ councillor
  • build skills to help you get across what you stand for
  • work on how to build support networks
  • increase your personal resilience
  • develop your strategies for leading while also being 'other'
  • explore intersectionality and what it is to be different (at the same time as being the same)
  • explore some of the critical challenges facing LGBTQ+ councillors due to societal pressures facing LGBTQ+ communities
  • hear and share experiences from other LGBTQ+ leaders about their leadership journey, insights and views on the type of leadership required to address key challenges
  • discuss whether there are any particular issues that should be considered by LGBTQ+ councillors
  • reflect on your personal leadership style and its impact on others
  • explore and practice key leadership skills such as influencing, networking and creating impact in order to achieve their goals.
