In our response we have stressed that any model needs to be responsive to local housing need and allow councils to reflect the complexities of different housing markets.

Homelessness is a tragedy for all those it affects, and is one of the most visible signs of the nation’s housing crisis. It is damaging for individuals, families and communities, and limits peoples’ ability to play a full and active role in society and the economy.

The Automated and Electric Vehicles Bill seeks to increase the access and availability of chargepoints for electric cars, while also giving the government powers to make it compulsory for chargepoints to be installed across the country at filling stations and enabling drivers of automated cars to be insured on UK roads.

Non-metropolitan areas account for a significant proportion (56 per cent) of England’s economic output.

Councils have a strong track record in welcoming asylum seeking children.

A key issue for local government is business continuity and the ability to plan for the sustainability of essential public services and that local private and public sector employers have a steady supply of the skills they need to thrive and grow.

The LGA supports the further roll out of lane rental to any authority that wishes to make use of the powers. We would also support more options being considered developing the Government’s proposed super permits. 

Councils have been calling for the Government to take tough action on sugar including reducing the amount of sugar in soft drinks and introducing teaspoon labelling on the front of products.

Adult social care must be treated as a national priority. It is a vital public service that supports people with physical and learning disabilities, those with mental health issues and older people and their carers to live their lives in the way they want.

Councils have a responsibility to support, safeguard, care for and house vulnerable members of their community. The provision of supported housing is vital to ensuring vulnerable people live in suitable homes that meet their personal and all-round housing, health and care needs.
