Resetting the relationship between local and national government. Read our Local Government White Paper
The LGA is working with Government to improve access to data on asylum and resettlement so councils can both plan and monitor impacts. Details of currently published data by scheme is given below.
Details of currently published data by scheme is given below.
Asylum numbers:
- Data relating to asylum seekers (see table Asy_D01 for the total number of asylum seekers).
- Data relating to the total of those arriving by irregular means including small boats which links to data related to asylum seekers
Asylum accommodation:
- Data on how many asylum seekers we are supporting through dispersed accommodation by local authority (a subset of total asylum seekers, see table Asy_D11). This will include any small boat arrivals, or other arrivals, who claim asylum and are receiving support.
Asylum costs:
- The Home Office also publishes data relating to the cost of the asylum system in its transparency statistics (Immigration and Protection data, table ASY_04). The latest data for asylum system costs relates to the financial year 2021/22
- Data relating to total arrivals from Afghanistan
- Data on individuals requiring resettlement via ACRS or relocation via ARAP is published in table Asy_D02
Please note that this data includes breakdowns by age, sex, nationality, accommodation type and scheme. Local authority breakdowns are not published for this cohort currently; the Home Office will look to include this information in future publications when available. Not all arrivals from Afghanistan require resettlement or relocation (e.g. some evacuees were British citizens).
Data on the Homes for Ukraine scheme and the Ukraine Family Scheme is collected and published by both DLUHC and the Home Office.
Visas, arrivals and geographic breakdowns for the Ukraine schemes
Data on the different stages of the visa application process for both schemes is published by the Home Office on a weekly basis
A breakdown of arrivals by both upper and lower-tier local authority for the Homes for Ukraine scheme. Published weekly by DLUHC, this dataset also includes both visa and arrivals data for the devolved authorities:
Please note that not all records of visas issued for Homes for Ukraine have a suitable postcode for mapping to upper or lower tier local authorities. The number of records excluded is about two per cent. Therefore, the figures in this dataset will not quite match the UK total published by the Home Office on visas and arrivals. Information on where new arrivals might live in the UK is not requested in the visa application process for the Ukraine Family Scheme, and therefore it is not possible to map the locality in which we expect arrivals to reside. For both the Homes for Ukraine scheme and Ukraine Family Scheme initial location of residence may not be an indication of future location.
Costs and resourcing
Local authorities welcoming guests through the Homes for Ukraine scheme are allocated a tariff to support new arrivals during their first year in the UK. A breakdown of quarterly tariff allocations, as well as thank you payments made by local authorities for the first two quarters of the scheme is published at:
Please note that the Ukraine Family Scheme does not have a local authority tariff or a thank you payment.
In addition, the Department for Education and Education and Skills Funding Agency offers quarterly payments to local authorities, to support the provision of education and childcare services for children who have entered England via the Homes for Ukraine scheme: Data on these funding allocations.
- Data relating to arrivals via other resettlement schemes
- Table Asy_D02 includes breakdowns for individuals resettled by resettlement scheme, age, sex, nationality, and host country.
- Table Res_D01 includes local authority breakdowns by resettlement scheme.
Immigration System Statistics – Regional and Local authority data: local authority level data on individuals on the Homes for Ukraine scheme, those under the Afghan resettlement programme and asylum seekers receiving support.
