One Public Estate and Brownfield Land Release Funding Awards announced

On Thursday 24 February 2022, DLUHC announced that a further £8 million was being awarded under the BLRF to 13 local authorities projects in England.

The One Public Estate Programme (OPE) is delivered in partnership by the Local Government Association (LGA), the Cabinet Office, and the Department for Levelling up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC). OPE also delivers the Brownfield Land Release Fund (BLRF) on behalf of DLUHC.

On Thursday 24 February 2022, DLUHC announced that a further £8 million was being awarded under the BLRF to 13 local authorities projects in England. This comes on the back of £69 million already awarded to 76 projects under the BLRF in 2021. An additional £3.67 million will be allocated for custom and self-build housing projects. Collectively, the new announcements aim to unlock surplus local authority land for nearly 900 homes.

In addition, £4.45 million of One Public Estate awards will also be made to 16 local areas in England, enabling local authorities and their public sector partners to deliver a range of benefits for communities and the taxpayer. Projects will span a range of areas such as: health and social care integration, housing development, town centre regeneration, blue lights collaboration, and community centres; with the aim of delivering in the region of £120 million of capital receipts, £15 million in reduced running costs, land for over 3,000 new homes, and 4,500 new jobs over the next 10 years.

These projects are contributing towards the government's plan to level up communities across the country, creating vibrant new places for people to live and work, boosting local economies, and delivering new homes and jobs. Find out more about the OPE programme and the BLRF.
