JNC coroners management side circular to local authorities - pay and next steps

In our last circular issued on 12 June we gave a further update on the coroner’s pay bargaining situation. Since then, the Ministry of Justice has shared with us correspondence between the CSEW and the Lord Chancellor, David Lammy MP. With their permission we share that correspondence with you as an appendix to this circular.

Circular NJC/2/26 – Pay award 2026

The NJC has agreed an increase of 3.8 per cent with effect from 1 July 2026. This circular contains the revised rates of pay from 1 July 2026.

Support for councillors

Councils provide support to councillors in their role as democratically elected representatives, although the level and type of support provided will vary.

Local government needs a suitably skilled, well-motivated and engaged workforce that meets the changing needs of residents and can continue its work through challenging times.

How is local government organised?

Much of England has two tiers of local government – county councils and district councils – with responsibility for services split between the two. Other areas have a single unitary authority responsible for all local services.

The local impacts of welfare reform - CESI

Holocaust Memorial Day

HMD is the international day on 27 January to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi Persecution and in genocides that followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur
