In Cheshire, two CCGs and the council have worked together to engage the wider local community in self care by recruiting a network of champions and setting up a Self Care Award to entice employers to get involved. This forms part of our resource on self care.

In October 2018, Slough Borough Council launched a multi-channelled campaign to raise awareness of modern slavery and its many guises, and encourage people to report instances of modern slavery they may have witnessed.

The London Boroughs of Islington and Camden run a successful child weight management programme called the Healthy Living Practitioner Service that offers one-to-one support from a nutritionist attached to the school nursing teams. Warrington’s SEND behavioural insights project focused on improving the effectiveness of its decision making arrangements around undertaking statutory assessments; issuing new Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans; and allocating resources to meet the needs of children and young people.

The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) must send a canvass form (known as a HEF) to every residential address in the registration area. In Pembrokeshire this is approximately 64,000 properties. This case study forms part of our behavioural insights resource.

Camden Council has rationalised the number of suppliers it contracts for payment services with the aim of moving towards a cashless system. Part of the project is for the distribution of social care payments such as the direct payment of adult and children’s social care electronically via prepaid cards. We now currently load £1million per month onto prepaid cards across more than 400 cards in circulation, and we are currently exploring how it can be rolled-out to additional schemes to supplement our cashless strategy. Our staff have reported the prepaid card system has resulted in a: “positive user experience”.

In 2014 East Surrey clinical commissioning group (CCG) embarked on a project to improve the medical care of residents of nursing and residential homes (care homes). East Surrey CCG has a significant number of Care Homes with a total of 1,800 beds across the geography. This example of a local initiative forms part of our managing transfers of care resource.

The Productivity Experts Programme grant funding supported the redesigning of the commissioning of our placement function for Children’s Services and considering future integration with the Adult’s services; as well as developing effective performance management processes and systems, and a quality assurance framework.

A report was commissioned by Havering’s Joint Commissioning Unit to understand the current needs and pressures across Children and Adults social care services and estimate the future accommodation needs for looked after children, care leavers, and children and adults with disabilities. This case study is part of the LGA's Housing Advisers Programme.
