As with other local authorities, central grant funding has been drastically reduced and as such, strategies and activities need to be implemented to ensure Copeland Borough Council (CBC) is financially self- sufficient by 2021. This case study forms part of our productivity experts resource.

Warrington’s SEND behavioural insights project focused on improving the effectiveness of its decision making arrangements around undertaking statutory assessments; issuing new Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans; and allocating resources to meet the needs of children and young people.

The Behavioural Insights Team worked with Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council (KMBC) to increase the number of people that take up council-provided Assistive Technology (AT) locally.

“Your Call” is a partnership with residents which empowers both individuals and groups to volunteer and support the council to deliver vital services.

The council needed to save approximately £200,000 across its leisure service in the 2019/20 financial year and also generate approximately £50,000 of income to offset reduction in funding from the government which would have provided support to maintain service levels. This case study forms as part of our productivity experts resources.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s culture and customer service was looking for skills, capacity and expertise to review commercial operations, including income, pricing and marketing of a range of leisure and tourism services offered in the East Riding, with a focus on leisure, coastal and foreshores. The aim was to provide capacity in developing pricing and marketing strategies and to identify new income generating opportunities.

The programme provided a productivity expert to support Mendip District Council in enhancing its approach to commercialising service delivery and building capacity and resilience for the future. 

This pilot project focused on developing an intervention to reduce sugar consumption in schools through a series of personalised ‘sugar swap’ messages.

The Croydon Behaviour Change Hub (BCH) worked with the SEN travel team to develop and trial a behavioural approach to reducing demand for council provided transport.

East Sussex County Council worked with key partners to reduce the manual handling of data and to target families more effectively through its innovative use of digital technology.
