Helen Jenkins, currently the LGA’s Joint Head of Leadership and Interim Head of Improvement Coordination and Strategy, will join the Strategic Leadership Team as Assistant Chief Executive.

Alastair Campbell, currently Interim Director of Communications and Engagement at Southwark Council, has been appointed as Interim Director of Communications and will join the LGA from 2 September for six months.

Sally Burlington, Director of Policy and Deputy Chief Executive, will leave the Local Government Association (LGA) later this year.

The legislative agenda set out today also includes some encouraging signs that the new Government recognises that, with the right powers and flexibilities, councils are critical to help it deliver its missions.

Following the General Election, Cllr Shaun Davies has stood down as LGA Chair after being elected as the new MP for Telford. Elected officers of the LGA Labour Group have unanimously nominated Cllr Louise Gittins as the new LGA Chair, replacing Cllr Davies with immediate effect.

The LGA will hold its Annual Conference and Exhibition at the Harrogate Convention Centre between October 22-24, 2024.

The LGA Board has taken the difficult but necessary decision to not proceed with the LGA Annual Conference and Exhibition due to take place in Harrogate from 2-4 July 2024.

The LGA is aiming to provide councils with support to harness opportunities, drive improvement across all regions and deliver critical services to communities.
