Apprenticeship Support Programme
The LGA’s apprenticeships support programme provides a range of practical support and advice for local authorities and their maintained schools on developing and enhancing their apprenticeship programme.

The LGA has created an early careers toolkit which contains guidance and resources to help councils engage with providers and young people, and promote local government as a good place to work.

Impact
Impact (The Local Government Graduate Programme) is a two-year programme that attracts graduates to work in local authorities (formerly the NGDP). Graduates rotate between a minimum of three placements, working at a high level to deliver value for money while gaining valuable experience to progress into senior roles.
Impact (Finance)
Impact (Finance), is a specialised stream within the Impact graduate programme designed for graduates who want to pursue a career in public finance. Over four years, it offers a unique and tailored development pathway into local government and other public services for aspiring finance professionals.
Pathways to Planning
Pathways to Planning is a graduate recruitment programme for local council planning teams. The programme recruits a diverse range of individuals to work as graduate planners in local authorities for a minimum of three years and funds their postgraduate study up to MRPTI.
Early Careers workbooks
It is important to continue to support local government colleagues who are early in their careers and enhance skills that are important for our sector. The workforce team have worked in partnership to create workbooks tailored different themes such as communicating with impact, accountability and building resilience.
Early Careers leads network
We understand the need to create early careers/young employee networks, which gives the opportunity to promote the activities and interests of young people. You can find information creating an ECN/YEN here. We have also create a platform for ECN/YEN leads to join to share best practice.
Care leavers and councils as employers
The Care Leavers support programme will seek to identify the number of care leavers accessing opportunities in councils. We will support/encourage councils to increase opportunities drawing together the learning and practical guidance from the sector. The programme outcome is to help more care leavers gain quality training and employment opportunities to improve their lives.
T Levels
T Levels are a qualification for 16–19-year-olds and an ideal way to engage local young people to take an interest in local government. The LGA has created a T Level toolkit to support in the planning and implementation of hosting Industry Placements.
