A two-day programme for Adult Social Care Lead Members and Chairs and Vice Chairs of Health & Wellbeing Boards looking to consider the key challenges in care and health in a rapidly changing policy landscape.

Aimed at Audit Committee chairs, this programme will discuss how Audit Committees can be most effective. It will look at how the committee functions and how it can gain maximum assurance that the council’s governance arrangements are fit for purpose.

A course to support new and experienced cabinet members to be successful in their portfolios and to supporting councillors in their role as executive members. The course is equally suited to policy committee chairs at councils operating the committee system.

This course aims to support Lead Members with the key challenges they face in the changing policy landscape and to develop leadership capacity, share learning and provide a valuable networking opportunity. This programme is also for Chairs of Children's Services scrutiny committee.

This learning event is aimed at experienced members with the children’s portfolio, education portfolio and chairs of scrutiny. Ideally participants would have done the children’s services essentials course more than a year ago and/or have been in role at least 12 months.

A two-day programme for new or aspiring scrutiny chairs or task-and-finish group review lead members. Focussing in depth on the topics that are currently most relevant to your scrutiny role.

For leaders and finance portfolio holders to enable them to get to grips with the financial challenges facing their authority. The course discusses setting longer term strategies for sustainability as well as balancing the budget on an annual basis and how to work with officers to ensure that the Council is making the most of its opportunities.

There is a need for all councillors to understand the current financial pressures and their importance. This course is intended to de-mystify the financial elements of the portfolio or policy committee that you chair. The course is aimed specifically for non-finance portfolio holders/policy committee chairs.

Good governance starts at full Council and every councillor has a role to play, but what does good financial governance look like? This two-session online course will examine this question. These sessions assume no prior knowledge and as such are ideal for new councillors or those who wish to refresh their understanding.

This course looks at political leadership of place within a health context. Intended for Health and Wellbeing Board chair/co-chair/vice-chairs, elected members on a Health and Wellbeing board, portfolio holders or those with executive responsibility for public health, health, or wellbeing.

This programme is for new or newer councillors to help understand the role of chair or vice chair on the licensing committee. As well as for more experienced committee members as a refresher and update.

Delivered by the Planning Advisory Service, this course is designed for councillors who are chairs of planning committee. And aid understanding of  the key characteristics of a good committee and develop their skills as a planning chair.

This seminar will enable participants to develop their understanding of how risk should be identified, assessed, and managed throughout the council.
