Towards a sustainable adult social care and support system

Adult social care and support matters. High quality social care and support helps people live the life they want to live. It helps bind our communities, it sustains our NHS and it provides essential economic value to our country

Our consultation is seeking the views of people and organisations from across society on how best to pay for care and support for adults of all ages and their unpaid carers, and aims to make the public a central part of the debate. We will respond to the findings in the autumn to inform and influence the Government’s green paper and spending plans.

The green paper also seeks to start a much-needed debate about how to shift the overall emphasis of our care and health system so that it focuses far more on preventative, community-based personalised care, which helps maximise people’s health, wellbeing and independence and alleviates pressure on the NHS.

Ahead of the green paper on the future of adult social care, we published a series of think pieces in which sector experts address issues at the heart of the debate to help define what a system fit for future generations might look like. See the full collection below.
