Armed Forces Day 2018

Armed Forces Day takes place on Saturday 30 June.


The occasion will be marked with a series of community-led events to show support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community, including serving armed forces, reservists, veterans, cadets, families and charities.

The National Event will be held in Llandudno, North Wales, and there are also 300 events taking place across the UK with celebrations beginning on Monday 25 June.

We are inviting councils across the country to help encourage people to attend Armed Forces Day events in their local communities. please help us to support our Armed Forces in your local area by taking part in some of the suggested activities below.

Suggested activities:

  • Contact key stakeholders in your region/nation with the Armed Forces Day toolkit  and encourage them to register planned events.
  • Create compelling and shareable videos, animations or infographics to highlight links to the armed forces community in your region. You can find you local event/s here.  All digital content should include this link to the ‘find events’ page. 
  • Participate in the #SaluteOurForces activities on Twitter and Facebook – posting photographs and videos of people saluting (more information in the Armed Forces Day toolkit).
  • Attend Armed Forces Day events in your region/nation and share photographs and videos on Twitter and Facebook using @ArmedForcesDay and the hashtags #ArmedForcesDay and #SaluteOurForces.
  • Share key pieces of content from @ArmedForcesDay and their Facebook page.

Key messages:

  • Our armed forces defend our country and protect our people. Without a professional and well-funded military, the UK would be less safe.
  • Armed Forces Day is an event that presents an opportunity for the nation to show their appreciation of and support for the armed forces.
  • Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for the armed forces to receive the thanks and support of the nation for the work they do.
  • Supporting Armed Forces Day is a worthwhile activity for the armed forces and wider defence community
