Swale Borough Council – photographic walks
An example of using photography to engage local people in examining and appreciating their local environment is from Swale Borough Council.
‘Roaming Perspectives' is a programme of photographic walks on the Isle of Sheppey.
Since 2009 twice-yearly walks, each led by a different professional photographer, have inspired a small group of residents to re-appreciate their rural landscape through the lens of a camera.
Favourite images are printed and hung in a mobile exhibition space, and the most striking ones used to rebrand and promote the area as a tourist destination for walkers.
‘Roaming Perspectives' is part of the Arts Council England-funded ‘Art at the Centre' scheme, which aims to embed creativity within regeneration practice in North Kent.
