We are calling for Government to work collaboratively with councils throughout any transfer of ownership to a private company.

We are concerned that the wording of the Bill will require the public sector to spend time and money seeking market solutions for goods and services which can currently be delivered effectively by collaborative arrangements within the public sector.

The LGA welcomes the Government’s proposed reforms to public procurement including enshrining in law the objectives of public procurement.

Our primary concern is that the Bill will significantly limit public bodies from using the current vertical and horizontal procurement exemptions, which enable councils and public sector bodies to enter into collaborative arrangements to run efficient public services.

Following the publication of the Green Paper, Transforming Public Procurement, we have been engaging with Government to help them to understand the way that councils procure goods, works and services.

The LGA broadly welcomes the Government’s proposed reforms to public procurement including enshrining in law the objectives of public procurement.

Acts of terrorism have a devastating and far-reaching impact on victims, their families and friends, and on communities more widely.

Councils are well placed to lead local action around culture and help people to identify with, understand, appreciate, engage with and feel a sense of ‘belonging’ in their local area.

"If the Government’s air quality plans and any new local powers are to be successful, they need to be underpinned by local flexibility and sufficient funding which needs to be addressed in the Spending Review. "
