His response to our letter on the proposed collection mechanism for the Building Safety Levy.

The Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill acts upon long running asks from councils and the LGA for further devolution in England. We are pleased that the Government has proposed to speed up the process and make good on its commitment to offer all of England the opportunity to benefit from a devolution deal by 2030. It is also important that councils of all sizes are engaged in the devolution process.

The Local Government Association broadly supports the government’s package of measures to ensure that the burden of paying to fix historical building safety defects does not fall on leaseholders. However, we have significant concerns about the proposed implementation of the Building Safety Levy.

It has been a quiet month in the employment law world, with no cases to report. What we do highlight though is legislation currently making its way through Parliament, which if passed will give ‘zero-hours’ type workers and agency workers with unpredictable working patterns, the right to request a predictable pattern.

The Local Government Association (LGA) is here to support, promote and improve local government. We will fight local government's corner and support councils through challenging times by making the case for greater devolution, helping councils tackle their challenges and assisting them to deliver better value for money services. This response has been agreed by Lead Members of the LGA Resources Board.
