Leisure centres need sustainable, multi-year investment to offer an efficient and valuable service to communities and strengthen the nation's health.
Responding to Sport England’s announcement of the allocation of all funds for phase two of the Swimming Pool Support Fund, Cllr Liz Green, Chair of the LGA Culture, Tourism and Sport Board, said:
“This funding will provide a lifeline to more than 300 facilities to remain operational.
“However, our recent survey shows sport and leisure services remain under huge pressure with more than half of councils needing to make cost savings to them this year.
“Leisure centres need sustainable, multi-year investment to offer an efficient and valuable service to communities and strengthen the nation's health.”
