Cllr Izzi Seccombe, Chairman of the Local Government Association’s Community Wellbeing Board, responds to latest delayed transfers of care figures published today by NHS England.

"Today’s figures show that councils have reduced the number of delayed days, building on a near continuous fall in delays since last summer."

“Despite significant funding and resource pressures, councils are fulfilling their commitments while also delivering effective budget management."

"Councils have now reduced the average number of delayed transfers of care days attributed to social care since July 2017 by 33 per cent."

No one's elderly parent, grandparents or friends should be left unnecessarily in a hospital bed, when they could be treated in the comfort and dignity of their own home.

“No council wants to see someone stay in hospital for a day longer than necessary and will continue to work hard with the local NHS amid unprecedented funding pressures to try and help people live independently and reduce demand on the health service."
