To mark Earth Day, the Local Government Association, which represents councils in England and Wales, is highlighting impressive new statistics that shine a light on the work councils are doing.

“As the cost of living has increased, we are concerned there will be more people this winter who may not be able to switch their heating on, putting them at greater risk from illness relating to the cold."

“The impacts of climate change are going to intensify into the future and councils are warning people and places will be left increasingly vulnerable without further preparation."

The latest shared services map from the Local Government Association (LGA), published today, shows that there are now 626 individual shared service arrangements across the country resulting in £1.34 billion of efficiency savings.

The LGA is calling for the Government to provide long-term investment in essential early support and prevention services so councils can help more children to avoid reaching crisis point in the first place.

The new Prime Minister must publish the long-awaited adult social care green paper before Parliament goes into recess in September.

“We are pleased that a further £102 million has been announced for the Additional Restrictions Grant. Councils will look forward to accessing this as soon as possible to ensure as many businesses in their area can benefit as possible.”
