Cllr Ian Hudspeth, Chairman of the Local Government Association’s Community Wellbeing Board, responds to to the publication of the Government’s green paper on prevention.

“We cannot duck this issue as a society any longer. What we need is answers and certainty, now and for the future."

The new Prime Minister must publish the long-awaited adult social care green paper before Parliament goes into recess in September.

The report, based on 22 effective HWBs across the country, shows the boards are driving health and social care integration and making sure that prevention is at the heart of this - helping to keep people well in the first place, rather than managing ill health better.

“Councils, which are responsible for public health, run a range of innovative programmes to help people quit smoking and have taken great strides in helping people to stub out tobacco for good."
