At the start of the pandemic, Calderdale Council’s public health team recognised the importance of supporting schools. They set up a helpline for schools so they could get in touch with public health specialists for advice.

The ambition In response to the recommendations of Future in Mind (2015), Calderdale Council, Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and other local partners came together in a multi-agency Emotional Health and Wellbeing Taskforce to create and deliver a Calderdale Local Transformation Plan for Emotional Health and Wellbeing.

Calderdale Council hosted 'Fuel Your Knowledge', an event attended by people from across health, voluntary, banking and education sectors to understand how partnership working can support those affected by the rising cost of living.

Calderdale Council has worked with taxi drivers to maximise the reach of its Prevent work.  It has been able to recruit dedicated staff, including a Prevent coordinator. The focus for the future will be working with women and schools.

The numbers of 16/17 yr. olds requiring emergency homeless accommodation has increased over a number of years. Despite having developed planned supported accommodation pathways for young people in Calderdale, the need for emergency accommodation is still high. In line with HRA and the need to reduce this number we need to consider how we are able to prevent young people, families other agencies in looking towards homeless accommodation as the remedy for a myriad of other related issues.

This year's compilation of case studies shows how local authorities continue to make progress on improving health and wellbeing and tackling health inequalities since public health was formally transferred from the NHS in April 2013.

Buy Local is a new local business directory developed to be easy to register on and use for businesses and customers alike.

The Buy in Bradford food voucher scheme was launched in response to the growing numbers of people in food poverty in the city.

Bury has set up an uptake and inequalities task group, composed of council, NHS, HealthWatch and voluntary sector representatives to make sure vulnerable groups do not get left behind in the vaccine rollout out.
