Bradford is a partner in West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership – a first-wave integrated care system (ICS). This case study forms part of our integrated care system (ICS) resource.

Bradford Council commissioned a piece of research on entrepreneurial support for young people in Bradford district, with the aim of understanding what appetite there is amongst them to start their own business or to become self-employed and how support might be best delivered to ensure there is an inclusive, accessible offer for them.

Self Care Week has been running across Bradford and Craven for a number of years. Last year the council’s public health team and three clinical commissioning groups introduced a new campaign: the Make One Change Challenge. In 2013, Bradford Libraries commissioned a review of its library service. This was a major piece of work and involved considerable consultation with library users and non-users and other stakeholders.

The Bradford City Centre Growth Scheme was created to support the economic growth and resilience of the City Centre. It has assisted 86 vacant units in being brought back into commercial use and encouraged 230 businesses to either open or expand operations.

The health service and local government have worked together closely across the Bradford and Airedale region to provide telemedicine to care home residents and people in the community.

This case study describes the process of resurrecting the Early Years and Childcare Strategy in Bracknell Forest. The support programme engaged a total of 12 LAs in a process to support the best coordination of services, legal compliance and improved outcomes for children and families.

Bracknell Forest Council has built on its involvement with the national Self Care Week by running a Year of Self Care and then setting up a community-wide network of clubs and groups that is seeing thousands of local people taking part in activities and looking after their health and wellbeing. In Bournemouth, a cluster of suicides linked to the railways led to targeted action by public health, council, transport and community partners. The response included a strong focus on communications, helping to change how the local media reports on suicide and mental health.
