Blackpool Council has worked with neighbouring areas to share good practice when it comes to sexual health services. It has helped the council improve and develop the way it provides support. This case study forms part of our sexual health resource.

Blackpool Council's Care Leaver Employment Adviser (CLEA) project provides a dedicated worker for young people (16 to 25 years) who have been looked after by the local authority. This role aims to support young people to take up a job, training, or work placement.

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council and Twin Valley Homes have turned a wilting nursery business into a community work scheme. The Four Seasons garden project aims to get people from deprived areas into work, partly as a way to improve their health. Part of Lifestyles for Work, the project is also looking at ways to increase the environmental sustainability of both the site and its partner organisations.

Meeting over 30 hours between September and December 2022, the Jury heard from commentators on the causes and consequences of climate change and elected to hear more on education and communication, housing and transport.

Success for partners in Blackburn with Darwen has been achieved through shared recognition of a problem, and a commitment to developing a solution, and testing, revising and taking it further. This example of a local initiative forms part of our managing transfers of care resource.

The public has got used to using and ordering rapid tests themselves. Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council has focused its efforts on targeting its support towards those most in need. Key to this has been its mobile testing unit.

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council has put itself at the forefront of assistive care technology. It uses both monitored and stand-alone devices to help 2,500 people live independently.

Following the easing of the national lockdown, Blackburn with Darwen became an area of intervention before other parts of north England. With the situation changing weekly, communications is challenging.
